FROM Royal Ascot to Catterick in just two weeks - that's Adulation, who turns up in the opening race on the North Yorkshire course this afternoon on behalf of Newmarket trainer William Haggas and owners Cheveley Park Stud.

Adulation's latest outing was in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot where, despite finishing out of the money, she was far from disgraced in occupying a mid-field position against some of the best sprinting juvenile fillies in England and Ireland.

Adulation had previously made her debut in North Yorkshire when finishing a close-up third to Angelic Lord at Ripon. Her target today is the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes. With Graham Gibbons on board she should find this sharp drop in class a rewarding exercise by coming out on top.

Richard Fahey won the ebfstallions.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes twelve months ago with Regiment and the Malton trainer can follow suit with Tachophobia, the mount of Tony Hamilton.

The two-year-old stepped up on his first run when finishing third to the well-regarded Pres Rapide at York just under three weeks ago. This race, over a furlong longer, promises to be an easier assignment.

Dr Irv should be hard to beat under PJ McDonald in the racinguk.com/anywhere-3Devices IPrice Handicap.

The five-year-old, trained by Phil Kirby for Helmsley owner Irvine Lynch, finished a creditable sixth to Totalize in a class 3 race at York on his latest start. He contests a class 5 race here over a course and distance where he has been successful in the past and, despite being forced to carry top weight, is napped to gain his first success of the campaign.

Patavium may be in the twilight of his career at the age of 11, but the evergreen veteran showed he is still capable of going a gallop when finishing second in the Ladies' Derby at Ripon recently.

Although he was beaten five lengths that day, Patavium showed enough to suggest that he is the one they all have to beat in the Wear A Yellow Jersey Handicap. Rachel Richardson, a competent 7lb claimer, attached to Tim Easterby's Great Habton yard, takes the mount and should enjoy a good spin on a horse who is having his 91st race.

The £10,000 Yorkshire Welcomes Le Grand Depart Handicap is the feature race on the card and Solar Spirit may hold sway in the hands of York-based Robert Winston, who enjoyed a double at Pontefract on Monday.

Trained by Tracy Waggott, Solar Spirit has been knocking on the door all season and finished a good third to Mon Brav on this track last time out. A previous course-and-distance winner, he should go well.

Tony Coyle is enjoying a good season and the Norton trainer can strike with Shillito in the Racing Again Next Wednesday Classified Stakes.

Beaten only a couple of lengths into fourth behind Meandmyshadow at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago, Shillito will have the assistance of apprentice Laura Barry, whose 7lb claim will come in handy in this tightly-knit event.

At Kempton's evening meeting, Ralph Beckett could be a trainer to follow. He has double prospects with Poyle Thomas (8.20), a Newmarket winner last time out, and Aldborough (8.50), who won at Chepstow when last seen a month or so ago.

Sir Michael Stoute, pictured left, has promising-looking filly in Panda Spirit (7.50), who showed definite signs of potential when finishing second on this course on her debut four weeks ago. Provided none of her unraced rivals in her maiden target are well above average, Panda Spirit is fancied to go one better under Ryan Moore.
