Dunnington 1 demonstrated that they are serious contenders for the division 1 title in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis league this week, with a victory over previously unbeaten York 1.

Their 67-41 victory, which included a 27 game haul from Jo Craven and youngster Charlotte Mitchell, leaves them on equal points with York after playing the same number of games.

Poppleton 1 remain third only by games difference, after a close fought 57-51 victory over fourth placed Castlegarth, aided by a vital 27 games from Kathryn Baker and Rebecca Turnbull. Pocklington 1 recorded their first win of the season against York 2, Emma Owen and Rebecca Hill contributing a significant 31 games.

Fulford 1 remain top of division 2 after they extended their 100% record with a comprehensive victory over their second team. Starbeck and Bishopthorpe both picked up wins over Pocklington 2 and Knaresborough respectively to keep the battle for second place alive.

Only four points separate top from bottom in division 3, a solid team performance from Copmanthorpe 1 saw them defeat leaders Rufforth 60-48. Wistow moved off the bottom of the table after a 60-48 victory over Wigginton 1.

In division 4, Poppleton 2 claimed two 55-53 victories over Tollerton and David Lloyd 2 to climb into second spot, just a point behind Riccall who completed a 64-44 victory over Bishopthorpe 2.

New Earswick remain unbeaten at the top of division 5, with Yvonne Petruso and Nicky Georgiou bagging 25 games in the 55-53 victory over Dunnington 3. Stamford Bridge moved into second place after defeating Heworth, whilst Cop 2 moved up the table after overcoming their third team.

Division 6 saw Julia Barker star for Bubwith, taking 30 games in each of their two weekend victories over Sherriff Hutton and Popp 3. Wilberfoss remain second after defeating David Lloyd 3 59-49, elsewhere Wigginton’s Sandra Burley and Catherine Field were the weekends top scorers taking 34 of their teams’ 64 game haul against Appleton Roebuck.
