CHAMPION apprentice Jason Hart, who earned his right of passage into the fully-fledged ranks last week when completing a treble at Hamilton Park, can ride his first winners as a senior jockey at Thirsk this evening.

Malton-based Hart, delighted to forfeit his 3lb allowance, courtesy of his 95th career success, teams up with Sheriff Hutton trainer Mark Walford at Thirsk and has good prospects of scoring on nap selection Medieval Bishop and Blue Top.

Medieval Bishop was a winner on this card 12 months ago in the mile-and-a-half handicap. Tonight he runs over two miles in the Yorkshire Outdoors Adventure Experiences Handicap and has leading claims.

The five-year-old has finished runner-up on his last two outings at Musselburgh behind Choisan and Aleksander respectively, both over one and three-quarter miles. Medieval Bishop looks likely to equally, if not better, suited by this extra distance and is taken to open his seasonal account.

Blue Top runs in the Download New Racing UK iPad App Handicap, the race won last year by Medieval Bishop, and looks sure to go well under Hart.

The gelding came back to solid form at Doncaster on his latest form when finishing fourth to Eastern Magic, beaten only two lengths. A reproduction of that performance will put Blue Top right in the mix this evening.

Connor Beasley, enjoying an excellent season, can expect a good ride from Cara's Request in the featured Jonathan Trowell Memorial Handicap. Michael Dods' veteran campaigner won by five lengths at Musselburgh last time and, although the handicapper has raised him 9lb for that display, this confirmed front-runner may be able to shrug off his new mark.

Tim Easterby can take the opening Racing UK Anywhere Available Now Maiden Stakes with Upward Trend, the mount of David Allan.

The son of Dark Angel shaped well from a poor draw at Beverley on his debut and again showed ability when fourth at York on his second and latest outing. There is surely more to come from Upward Trend and he may find opportunity knocking here.

Also worth noting at this popular evening fixture are the well-drawn Abraham Monro (6.50), likely to have benefited from his recent comeback outing, and the promising Zac Brown (7.20).

At Windsor's evening meeting, Arthur Martinleake can make his long journey from North Yorkshire worthwhile by lifting the opening 3M United Kingdom plc Maiden Stakes.

Trained at Middleham by Karl Burke, the two-year-old was sent off favourite to make a winning debut at Ripon last week, but made a tardy start, ran green and could finish only third. He is surely capable of a good deal better and provided this race does not come too quickly for him, he looks sure to go well.

Ralph Beckett has a couple of good chances on the Windsor card. He saddles Principle Equation (7.10), who has finished runner-up in both her races this season, and last-time-out winner Ravenous (7.40), who may have more to offer. Jim Crowley rides the pair.

Henry Candy has a lightly-raced three-year-old in Cosette (9.10), who is selected to defy top weight under Dane O'Neill. She won well on her reappearance over this course and distance and although not as good next time at Nemarket, she is worthy of respect back at this venue.
