REIGNING champions Woodhouse Grange walloped third-placed Beverley Town by nine wickets in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.

Host Beverley took first innings and were only able to make 144 all out as Steve Burdett claimed 4-20 and Chris Suddaby 3-27. For the hosts, Olly Grantham made 47 and Morrell 32.

Grange cruised to a winning 147-1 as Andy Bilton made 49 and Nick Hadfield an unbeaten 62.

Two lowly sides were in opposition at Clifton Park where York II batted first against Dunnington with only Sam Beales (29) and Glen Richmond (24) making mentionable scores. Dunnington’s Josh Barrett took the honours with a 5-43 haul.

Tom Love then hit back with 4-23, but the joint efforts of Kev Bradley (25) and Collis King (24) edged Dunnington home with one wicket in hand.

Studley Royal won by 18 runs at Hull Zingari. Charlie Scatchard made 44 and Steve Clarke 29 not out as Studley reached 169-8.

Zingari's Matt Bunn hit 77 but Dan Craven’s 4-26 had the hosts all out for 151.

Batsmen scored freely at Sheriff Hutton Bridge as the home side retained their unbeaten record by gaining the best of an extremely closely fought draw with Sewerby.

The Bridge had an opening stand of 80 between Dave Bradshaw (31) and Paul Oldfield (43) before skipper Adam Fisher hit 93, only to fall to a skier in the 48th over as Russ Robinson (4-60) gained late wickets.

Facing a target of 246-8, bottom-placed Sewerby started well with Sam Tenant hitting 53. Mike Artley then made 73 as Sewerby appeared to be heading for their first win, but they ran out of time at 243-6.

Fenner totalled 191-9 at Clifton Alliance, with Will Parker top-scoring on 67. The two best home bowlers were Liam Green (3-58) and Alex Renton (3-48).

Clifton’s reply was spearheaded by John Gilham, who hit an unbeaten 70. Adam Slater made 56 as the Alliance ran out winners at 195-7.

Easingwold and Stamford Bridge played out the first tied game of the season.

Stamford Bridge made 228-5 then Easingwold replied with 228-9 to hold on to their second place rating.

The game’s batting star was Stamford’s Kev Murphy, who hit 106. He was well supported by skipper Matt Beckett, who made 67, as Paul Skilbeck notched 4-60.

After the interval, five Easingwold batsmen made decent scores - Steve Piercy made 25, Skilbeck 41, L Ramsay 50, Josh Greenlay 27 and Mark Haines 26. Beckett claimed 4-55.

LOWLY Malton & Old Malton gained a valuable four-wicket win at third-placed Bridlington in division one of the Hunters York & District Senior League.

Nick Tenant made 29 and Rich Lount 26 for the hosts, but Stu Whatmore’s 4-15 had them all out for 134.

Shaun Harland then made with 42, Dan Foxton 27 and M Harland an unbeaten 41 as Malton gained their first win of the season despite a 4-27 return by Sam Edmundson.

Promotion-chasing Sessay had a fine ten-wicket win over Folkton & Flixton, whose 222-9 was overtaken without loss as Mark Wilkie cracked 106 not out and Matt Till 109 not out in an unbroken stand of 226.

Before tea, four Flixton batsmen had made good scores, headed by Matt Nesfield’s unbeaten 48. Neil Elvidge made 43, Rich Malthouse 33 and M Dandy 37. Tim Hall was Sessay’s best bowler with figures of 6-60.

Pickering chased down Whitkirk's 204-6 thanks to an unbeaten 107 from Dave Greenlay and 43 not out by Colin Frank.

Mark Shepherd had earlier claimed 4-38 for the Pikes.

Hosts Driffield defeated Bolton Percy by just 15 runs in a game involving two of the struggling clubs in the division.

Kev Woodcock was Driffield’s top scorer with 79, while James Greveson added 43 in a total of 247-7 as Peter Houseman took 4-65.

Jacob Green responded with 90 and Tom Atkinson added 67 but the bowling of Jamie Hopper, with 5-57, and Halder, with 3-42, proved to be conclusive as Bolton fell to 232 all out.

Sound batting by Oliver Sherwood (48), Sam Lingard (28) and Steve Baxter (44) took Heworth to a two-wicket victory over Goole, who had earlier made 190-7.

In that total Jake Mahoney had made 62, Neil Foster 53 and Anthony Gibbins 30 as Tom Neal took 5-63.

Acomb’s Andy Tute cracked 131 and Matt Dale made 81 as their side posted 276-3 at bottom-placed Selby.

In reply, Tom Collins made 45, Greg Townend 42, Matt Clark 57 and Elliott Precious 28 not out but M Askham took 3-42 to limit Selby to 198-6.

OSBALDWICK maintained their big lead at the top of division two north when they inflicted a heavy 126-run defeat on lowly York III.

For the villagers, Matt Dunne cracked 101, Matt Hattee made 74 not out and Jonny Rawsthorne 32 in a total of 250-3.

Rawstorne then completed his day with a match-winning 5-31 in 8.5 overs as York tumbled to 124 all out.

Thirsk improved their survival chances with their first win of the season when they defeated Sheriff Hutton by 84 runs at The Racecourse.

Kieron Fenwick’s previous best score was nine in six innings but he rose to the occasion in fine style to crack 88 as Thirsk batted first.

Andy Kenny had 4-50 for Sheriff, but Thirsk’s Mark Cook made 26 and Stuart Christon 52 as they totalled 225-9.

Christon then added a tally of 5-54 to his half-century. With Jake Petty taking 3-6, Sheriff were rolled over for 141, which included 41 from Joel Wilford and an unbeaten 48 by Geoff Schofield.

Pocklington improved their lowly position when they beat Dringhouses by six wickets.

There was a half-century from John Patrick, who made 67, while Dan Snaith made 41 as Dringhouses totalled 169-5, with Freddie Parry taking 4-34.

Andrew Anderson led the response with 62 while Neil Jackson added 27. With Alex Downey then making 38 not out, Pocklington won by six wickets.

Will Prest hit an undefeated 106 and Rich Bowling made 79 as Hovingham totalled 253-4 when entertaining a Ripon side who were bowled out for 179.

At Woodhouse Grange, Peter Kent made 75 as Duncombe Park took first use of the pitch. Brian Leckenby chipped in with 33 and J Skelton made 29 in a total of 213-9 as Tom Quinn took 4-61.

Quinn then followed with 26 as a number of Grange batsmen made some runs. Marcus Smith made 29, Paul Grewer 21, T White 21 and L Wilson 25. However James Leckenby had 4-33 which limited Grange to a draw at 193-8.

A half -century by George Owram, who made 51, coupled with 45 by Nick taylor enabled Harrogate to beat Tadcaster Magnet by 6 wickets after the Brewers, for whom Tyrone Naude made 29, had been dismissed for 139 by Rob Stanworth, with 3-33, and Louis Foxton, who claimed 3-21.

DIVISION two south leaders Acomb had the better of a draw in their all-York clash with Clifton Alliance, whose 169-8 was 30 runs short of Acomb’s 199-7.

Scott Nicholls was top scorer with 89 while Harry Booth weighed in with 52 as Ali Wray took 5-62. Wray then followed with 55 and Andy Parkinson made 62, but Paul Hemingway’s 4-20 kept Acomb in control.

Second-placed Beverley were five-wicket winners over third-placed Patrington

Patrington made 162, with Marc Pollard making 27 and Craig Foster 23, as Steve Blake claimed 5-56. When Beverley responded, Mark Todd caused problems with 4-34 but the duo of Robert Fish 84) and M Cooke (45) took their side to a win at 167-5.

More than 500 runs were scored in a drawn game at Londesborough Park which featured a good sized century and two scores of 98.

The centurion was Phil Stothard, who hit 131 for Park. Tim Nettleton supported with 60 as Park made 278-9 despite 4-58 by J Oakes. When Welton & Brough replied both Dan Gittings and Adam Boasman just missed their centuries when both fell for 98. Nathan Saltmer took 5-54 which restricted Welton to a draw at 227-7.

SHERIFF Hutton Bridge were far too strong for bottom placed Drax and came away with an 84 run win which moved them up to second place. Steven Crowder hit an unbeaten 109 and Mike Smith made 50 as Bridge reached 213-2.

When the home side batted, Luke Edwards made 46 and Ben Worley 27 but Drax were dismissed for 129 as Dominic Atkinson took 4-29 and Smith 3-33.

Huby inflicted a first defeat of the season for Easingwold II, winning by 86 runs. There were home half-centuries for Sean Dixon, with 62, and Chris Cundall, who made 51, before Hugh Sheddon chipped in with 31 in a total of 202-7. Easingwold were then removed for 116.

Woodhouse Grange were only able to make 113-9 when batting first at Malton, with only Gary Chapple, who made 31, making a reasonable score as Oliver Gilbank took 3-20 and Tony Linsley 3-17.

Malton were then taken to a six-wicket win as three batsmen - James Baxter (26no), Ryan Wharton (28) and (J Berry 27), played cameo innings.

Sessay are the new divisional leaders after beating fourth-placed York IV by 116 runs.

Sessay set a good target when they made 242-8, with Matt Wass hitting 72, Tom Wilkinson 61 and Matt Jackson 25. Ben Wilkinson had 5-34, but then saw his namesake Tom Wilkinson grab 7-20 to complete a fine day’s work as York, for who Kev Mendham made 47, were bowled out for 126.

Castleford were another side to record their first win of the season when they triumphed by fivewickets at Stillington. Shaun Speck made 38 for Stillington but his side could only total 109 as Orran White claimed 4-28 and Darren Hyde 3-28. Connor Hyde then made 33 in Castleford’s 110-5.

Londesborough Park logged an enormous 164-run win when they visited Whitkirk and made 246-6.

Mike Drewery topped the pile with 75 while other good knocks came from Harry Gamble (46) and Ben Shingles (47) as Sam Rudd claimed 3-34. Whitkirk 5-38 had them all out for just 82.

BOTTOM side Selby II turned in by far their best performance of the division three south season and came within a whisker of gaining their first win.

They had third-placed Fenner hanging on for a draw at 172-9 after making 202-7. For Selby, T Townend hit 43, S Smith an unbeaten 62 and Dave Brunyard 29 not out.

Richard Barker then made 86 when Fenner responded, but Jeffrey Romans took 4-50.

Second-placed Goole Town lost at home to Heworth by 84 runs as Nadeem Sadiq made 67 and Dan Ellwood 32 in a total of 152-8.

S Franks made 20 not out for Goole, who were whipped out for just 68.

Rowntrees & Huntington defeated New Earswick by 60 runs and now head the division by 27 points.

Martin Hewitson was in fine form for Earswick in taking 6-26, which saw Rowntrees all out for just 122. he bulk of the runs were provided by Tom Shaw, with 32, and Nick Johnson, who made 43.

The lowish score was more than adequate as Earswick could only muster a total of 62, as Steve Beales took 6-25 and Noel Collings 4-20.

Scarborough lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with an advantage draw over Yapham, who slip into the bottom two.

The Coastmen were able to make 180-7 as Kawsar Ahmed hit 73 and Josh Mainprize 34. S Hardwick had 3-48 for Yapham, who were reduced to 119-9 as Mick Kay took 3-31. Barry Pearson made 37 and Martin Pearson 32.

Les Welburn made 38 when Pickering batted first at Welton, but good bowling by Steve Scammells (4-29) and Shawn Wilson (4-30) had them all out for 106.

Scammells then made 36 not out as Welton won by five wickets.

HEMINGBROUGH stayed top of division four west after a big win over Bolton Percy.

Matt Milburn hit 64 and Toby Boddycombe made 52 not out as Hemingbrough scored 231-8.

Percy’s reply was well off course as Paul Van Dijk took 5-19 and Tom Sheppherd 3-18 to dismiss them for just 51.

Rowntrees & Huntington dropped to third when they lost by 100 runs to Copmanthorpe, whose R Atkinson took 5-26 and John Hughes 4-13 after Dan Hoggarth had earlier made 43.

Dale Gibson made an unbeaten 54 and J Tomlinson took 6-50 as Thorp Arch defeated Dunnington, whose Steve Young made 46.

Gary Slaywe’s unbeaten 78 for Drax earned little reward as John Chaplin’s 56 helped Pocklington win by nine wickets.

Tadcaster Magnets' 57-run defeat of Carlton Towers included 45 by Kev Wakefield and 5-22 by Nasir Shefta.

Tom Russell hit 68 and James Pullein made 28 then followed with 4-17 as Cawood beat Woodhouse Grange by 100 runs.

TIM OWEN took 3-12 and Jon Woodall 4-15 as Dringhouses bowled out Cawood for 80 before going on to win by four wickets in division four central.

Neil Claxton, with 5-34, and Nigel Ayre, who was unbeaten with 88, starred in Civil Service’s eight-wicket triumph over Huby, whose John Mead made 44.

Richard John’s 79 not out helped Hovingham to 195-4 against New Earswick, who could only muster 61 as A Newton took 4-8.

Copmanthorpe had a big win over Osbaldwick, who were 148 runs adrift. Darren Hughes hit 118 and then captured 4-22 while G Ricks added 54.

Sheriff Hutton beat Stillington by nine wickets in a low scoring game.

DRIFFIELD Town beat Brandesburton by eight wickets in division four east.

Brandesburton made 204 with Mike Sharp hitting 59, but Driffield made a positive reply with Isaac Wilkes cracking 97 not out and James Foster making 47.

The best bowling return of the season wiped Cottingham away for just 68 as Hill Top won by nine wickets, Dan Mould capturing eight wickets for just nine runs.

Andrew McConnell hit an unbeaten 102 to set up a 140-run win for Kirkella over Hornsea.
