SELBY have founded their first triathlon club, Yorkshire Vikings, which was launched by keen swimmer and sportswoman Naiomi Saunders.

Saunders, who has a degree in Sports Science and is an ASA Swimming Teacher and is a qualified Beach Lifeguard, set up the Yorkshire Vikings triathlon club in February of this year and is also offering swimming coaching, cycling, running and land training in Selby for all ages and abilities.

She runs the club with mum and ASA Coach Carol Saunders to provide Selby with a sports club that has both social and community interests.

Yorkshire Vikings is already affiliated with Triathlon England and is made up of a Junior Squad (8-14 years), Senior Squad (14-21 years) and a Masters Squad. All swimming sessions take place at Barlby High School, with Open Water training sessions taking place in the summer at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park and currently has 15 member at the club.

The founder of Yorkshire Vikings, Naiomi said: “I have been looking to set up a Triathlon club for the last couple of years. Cycling and running are well catered for in the town, but the lack of pool space in Selby after the leisure centre burned down has left swimmers ‘high and dry’! But Once we managed to secure some pool time at Barlby High School in February, it was all systems go and we now have two nights of swimming training every Tuesday and Thursday.”

“To keep the club going and to develop, Yorkshire Vikings are looking for further sponsorship and support from local businesses and the community.”
