YORKSHIRE all-rounder Will Rhodes has won the prestigious England Development Programme Cricketer of the Year award.

The 19-year-old Stamford Bridge star captained England Under-19s to third place in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the UAE last winter and also made his Yorkshire first team debut in Twenty20 Cup last summer.

The shortlist for the award included Yorkshire team-mate Matthew Fisher, the Sheriff Hutton Bridge teenager, but innings such as his unbeaten 76 in the World Cup semi-final defeat against Pakistan landed the accolade.

“Clearly he’s an exciting talent,” said Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket.

“We haven’t seen much of him recently. He’s been away all winter, and when we’ve seen him this summer, the second team have been so handicapped by the weather. “

Rhodes was one of the many youngsters given a chance by the Vikings in last season’s 40-overs competition and the domestic Twenty20 Cup.
