MARVIN McCOY is "looking forward to learning" from York City manager Nigel Worthington after signing a two-year deal with the Minstermen.

The 25-year-old Antigua and Barbuda international right-back has arrived at BoothamCrescent after being released by League Two rivals Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season/

McCoy made more than a century of appearances for the Chairboys and 40 last season as he was a key figure as they fought to remain in the Football League.

He'll be expected to fill the void left by Lanre Oyebanjo's move to Crawley Town and said the interest of former Northern Ireland boss Worthington had been a big factor in his decision to join the club.

"The manager showed a good interest in me and I am looking to learn from him," McCoy said. "I study football so I was aware of his career and, when we played York City, I thought the team was really good.

"We drew one game and we lost. They were very tough games, especially the one here and in the first half. I remember it quite clearly. They are a very good team and I am looking forward to it. I hope we can challenge for promotion. York just missed out in the play-offs last season and we'll be looking to go one better.

"Once I knew York were interested there wasn't much else to think about, to be honest with you. I know it will further my career and any move that is going to do that I am up for it."

McCoy worked in CCTV management in London while playing for Wealdstone before impressing Wycombe during a trial at the club and gaining a contract at the club.

He described his time with the Chairboys as character building. "We've been promoted, which was very good, and relegated, which obviously wasn't.

"It makes you stronger in those tough times. You have to push to keep going and be determined, no matter what happens.

"It has helped in my journey as a footballer and has helped to build me as a player. I've played in League and I'd like to think I did quite well there. I've played a lot of League Two."

McCoy continued: "I am a very good one-to-one defender. I am very quick. I like to get forward and put crosses into the box. I just think we need to build on last season. With the recruitments we have made already, I see that we are going in the right direction.

The six-time capped international, who has played matches against the likes of the USA, Jamaica and Haiti, said one of the key things he had learned at Wycombe was how to deal with expectation.

On that challenge, with City fans optimistic of a strong campaign next season after reaching the play-offs last time around, McCoy said: "I think it's healthy. You have always got to strive to do good things and, if you do that, you won't fall short.

"I really hope we can push on and have a successful season."
