YORK CITY have signed their first ever performance analyst.

Luke Foulkes will work with the Minstermen's youth and academy set-ups and will operate under the club's new academy manager Andy McMillan.

The appointment of the 22-year-old is designed to help the club develop home-grown stars and comes as City also invest in analyst software, Gamebreaker, which will allow Foulkes, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, to compile dossiers for the youth and academy coaches and players.

The role has been paid for from the youth team and academy funds.

McMillan, who only took up his new role as academy manager this week, said: "The appointment of Luke and the introduction of Gamebreaker is a significant development for the youth team and the academy at York City.

"We are really grateful to the people in charge of the youth team fund and academy fund for agreeing to release the monies to make this possible.

"The importance of performance analysis cannot be underestimated in football today, and anything that can help a player, particularly a young player, to analyse and improve their performance can only be a good thing, not only for the player but for the club too."
