STAMFORD Bridge Cricket Club were left counting the cost of the weather as England Test star Jonathan Trott's comeback was cut short.

Trott, making his first appearance since his early departure from England's ill-fated Ashes tour last winter, was poised to resume on 12 not out for Warwickshire Seconds against their Yorkshire counterparts at Low Catton Road yesterday.

However, day two of the Second XI Championship fixture was washed out without a ball being bowled, denying Stamford Bridge the chance of a bumper crowd.

Trott took 3-39 off 14 overs with the ball on day one as the Tykes' second string were bowled out for 301. Andrew Hodd top-scored for Yorkshire with 58 and Stamford Bridge all-rounder Will Rhodes made 28 on his club ground.

Warwickshire reached 81-1 in reply, with Trott unbeaten and looking to press on yesterday.

Club secretary Norman Pearson said: "It was all set up for us, but we didn't get any play at all. It was abandoned at about 11.30am. It was dry first thing but then it rained hard again in the morning.

"I think we were lucky to get a full day in on Monday. It is a bit of an attraction having a Test player here and, you never know, we may get some play today."

The weather forecast for today is not good, but play on the final day is scheduled to get under way at 11am.
