A STRONG first-half display earned Heworth ARLC their second win of the season in National Conference League division three.

The Elm Park Way hosts beat fellow strugglers Eastmoor Dragons 36-8 to leapfrog them in the division three table.

The Villagers led 32-0 at the break and were in unstoppable mood, posting six unanswered tries in a devastating opening period which effectively ended the match as a contest.

The hosts took the lead after only three minutes with a try by centre Adam Withington, converted by stand-off Danny Allan.

Seven minutes later, winger James Farnsworth crossed in the corner after some slick handling for an unconverted score.

Full-back Christian Pollock was next over the whitewash for a try which Allan failed to convert.

On 29 minutes, centre Matt Harding broke through the Dragons defence 40 metres out and found second rower George Wilkinson in support. He went over for a try which Allan goaled for a 20-0 advantage.

Heworth kept up the pressure and after 34 minutes substitute Liam Richmond followed up to score from a neat grubber kick by Allan, who also added the extras.

Two minutes before the break, Pollock registered his second touchdown after fielding a Dragons kick close to his own line and racing 80 metres in a weaving run for a fine individual effort. Allan converted to give the home side an unassailable 32-0 lead.

The second half was a scrappy affair played in worsening conditions, with torrential downpours making handling extremely difficult for both teams.

Heworth's only try came from Allan, sandwiched between touchdowns by Eastmoor hooker Lee Whiteley and winger Sam Poole-Evans.

Withington took the man of the match award for the Villagers, with prop Mark Hayes and young hooker Dave Hayes also prominent.

Meanwhile, York Acorn's trip to Oulton Raiders in division one was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
