ENDING a Driffield Town hoodoo is top of the agenda for York Cricket Club this weekend.

The reigning Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League champions meet their knockout nemesis at Clifton Park tomorrow.

The East Yorkshire visitors beat York in last season's Yorkshire League Cup final and ousted them from the league's Twenty20 competition.

The clash is the first of three Clifton Park outings for York over the Bank Holiday weekend, with Sheffield United visiting in the league on Monday after Sunday's Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy tie against Shepley.

York were without a league fixture last Saturday and, although they dropped to fourth in the table, defeats for top two Harrogate and Yorkshire Academy kept them in touch.

Secretary Nick Kay said: "It is a tough weekend for us, although they are all at home which will help us.

"Driffield are our hoodoo team. We were second best to them last season. But it is important that we don't slip up because results went for us last weekend.

"Harrogate and the Academy lost and when other teams let you back in, it is important that you make the most of it.

"We need to put in a performance tomorrow and come out firing on all cylinders.

"The batters are starting to find some form and the bowlers have been doing well, so it is just a case of both elements coming together."

On Sheffield United, he added: "They are team in transition. They have lost experienced players and they have a lot of juniors, but we can't take anything for granted."

York are at full strength on Saturday and Monday, with overseas star Travis Ilka desperate to make an impression after his debut was cut short by rain a fortnight ago.

"Travis is champing at the bit to play," said Kay. "He is a really good guy and a very handy cricketer. He has been helping to coach the kids at the club, but he is looking forward to playing some cricket."

Vice-captain Tom Pringle will lead the side against Shepley on Sunday as skipper Dan Woods is away with Cheshire.

Kay admitted to knowing little about the Drake Huddersfield League champions, but said: "We've never played them before, but any team that wins that league is a strong side.

"It is an unknown but hopfully home advantage will help us. If we do the right things on our pitch hopefully we can get the better of them."

Kay will also sit out Sunday's game.
