HOLGATE top the York Amateur Bowling Association League division one after a perfect four wins from four games.

The leaders beat Hull Road Park 6-2 at home before posting a stunning 8-0 win at RI Amateurs.

Their nearest pursuers are Holgate WMC, who have also won all their games, the latest being a good 8-0 success at Dunnington. Dunnington finally got a win on the board with a resounding 8-0 victory at Selby.

Reigning champions Selby are finding life difficult this season, their only win so far coming at Haxby Road 6-2.

Haxby Road bounced back with a 7-1 home win over Rowntree, which completed a poor week for Rowntree following a 6-2 defeat at home to Dringhouses.

Dringhouses’ week was completed with a comfortable 7.5-0.5 triumph at Hull Road Park.

Division two front-runners RI Corinthians - aiming to bounce straight back to the top tier - beat visitors West Park 6-2 and Burnholme 7-1 away.

The pace-setters in division three are unbeaten Copmanthorpe, who had two 6-2 victories - at Poppleton Road WMC and at home to Osbaldwick.

In a complete reversal of fortune, last season’s wooden spoon team Retreat, who went all season without a win, have started this season with two resounding victories.

They beat Poppleton 7-1 at home, before clocking an 8-0 win at University.

The draws for the YABA knockout competitions will take place at the exec meeting at York RI on Tuesday, May 27, at 7pm. Players are reminded to get their entries in before the meeting.

• Defending York C&IU Evening League champions Clarence are still unbeaten and lead second-placed Burton Lane, who also have yet to lose, by four points.
