YORK City forward Michael Coulson has signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the club.

The 26-year-old put pen to paper this morning at Bootham Crescent after being offered terms by manager Nigel Worthington yesterday.

Coulson scored crucial goals in the second half of the season as the Minstermen surged into the League Two play-offs and has been rewarded for his efforts following an extended spell out of the team earlier in the campaign.

The former Scarborough and Grimsby player said he was delighted to have signed the contract and was looking forward to next season.

"I learned a lot from what happened and when I got my chance in the second half of the season I knew I had to take it," Coulson said.

"I did everything I could in those games to try and take my chance and, luckily, I did and the club have been brilliant with me. I am really happy.

"It was never in doubt. I didn't even speak to any other club at all. All I wanted to do was stay at York. I am perfectly settled so there was never any other club at the back of my mind."

City chairman Jason McGill added: "I made no secret of the fact, when I signed Michael for his first contract, that I wanted him at York City.

"I think he has been a big part of what we have achieved this season. It's brilliant to have Michael and you can tell that he is absolutely delighted to be here and that's great. I love that when someone says 'I just want to play for York City."
