KING WILLIAM completed a clean sweep of league trophies by lifting the Ian’s Cars of Barlby Senior Challenge Trophy.

The division one champions were made to work hard for their victory by newly-crowned division two champions Leeman United.

United bossed the opening quarter of an hour, but failed to capitalise and King William came into the match with chances for Luke Hall and Danny Gray.

Leeman broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when Olly Newby scored after a goalmouth scramble.

Newby went close to doubling United’s lead just a few minutes later when his shot had King William keeper Daniel Fairclough beaten but struck the far post.

Three minutes before the break a Hall free-kick was floated to the back post but Nathan Kamara headed against a post.

In first-half stoppage time, a free-kick from King William's Daniel Pedras was headed in by Danny Gray for the equaliser.

After the break, King William went close with one of the best moves of the game. Hall linked up with Kevin Butler on the left before crossing, and Gray’s header flashed past an upright.

King William took the lead in the 76th minute when Kamara found space on the right and thundered a sweet low shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner of the net.

Leeman United then had their best chance to equalise when a Danny Coulson cross found Jimmy Clamp in space, but his shot failed test the goalkeeper.

Fairclough then denied Leeman a last-ditch equaliser with a tremendous save from point blank range, making a fingertip save onto the crossbar on 84 minutes.

King William won the hat-trick of league trophies and the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup to round off their best-ever campaign.

The trophy was presented by Roy Ellwood, president of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning League.
