STEVE Vine reached the quarter-finals of the seventh stage of the Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship.

The York ace beat Andy Walshaw 3-2 in the first round of the knockout matches before bowing out to Yorkshire ace Brian Dawson by the same scoreline in the last eight of the York Darts Promotions competition sponsored by Red Dragon Darts.

David Copley went on to beat Mark Lawrence 5-4 in the final, taking the deciding leg in 15 darts.

Thurnscoe-based Copley also threw 14 and 16-dart legs against Lawrence, who responded with 15-17 and 18.

Earlier, Copley (14) beat Humberside pair Tommy Lishman (112 finish for 15-17-19) 4-3 in the last four and Jake Patchett 3-1 in the quarter finals.

Lawrence (147 checkout for 15, 2 x 17 and 13) halted the run of the ever-consistent Dawson (15-18-14) 4-3 after legs of 19-17-17 saw off the challenge of Harrogate's Alex Pride during a 3-1 triumph.

The remaining quarter final saw Danny Lidgett lose out to Lishman 3-2.

Earlier, group one highlights came from Heathcote (118 finish for 18 and 17 darts), Lidgett (17-21), Scott Bennett (18-106 finish for 21-19-20 and 14) and Lishman (21-20-20-16-21).

Group two saw Rich Lee (19) losing out 3-1 to Kemp (Snr) (2x20), while Bill Hague (15), Holden (130 bull finish for 18-21 and 21) and Patchett (100 finish for 18, 116 finish for 15 and 15) were the best of the rest.

Hartley hit a 126 checkout added to legs of 21-17 and 12 darts in group three, with Rich Corner (15, 2 x 18) defeating Neil Hart (18) 3-1.

Pride (2 x 19), Turner (20 and 13), Aaron Holdstock (20) and Steve Mann (19) also impressed.

There were 18-dart legs, meanwhile, from James Weldon, Rushby, Vine and Walshaw in group four, while Keith Craggs and Jamie Planton included 21-dart legs and Dawson added a 13.

Maximum 180s were thrown throughout the day by Hartley (three), Heathcote, Mann and Corner (all two each) and Lidgett, Holden, Kemp (Snr), Pride, Dawson, Turner, Lawrence, Lee Budgeon Dave Kerr and Gordon Leeming (all one apiece).

Hart and Martin Wilson won the Blind Pairs event.

A 146 finish from Hart sealed a 2-1 win over Chris Matthews and Hartley.

The beaten semi-finalists were Trevor Day/Pride and Jonny Scott/Ian Atkin.

Stage eight of the York Darts Open Championship takes place on Saturday at Huntington WMC.

Registration closes at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

All quarter-finalists will receive prize money along while YDP sponsors Cosmo Darts will supply prizes for all semi-finalists, as well as for the players who claim the highest checkout and fastest leg.
