WIGGINTON Grasshoppers gained knockout revenge on Huntington Rovers with a 1-0 victory in the final of the York Minster Engineering Football League Senior Cup.

Grasshoppers erased the memory of the previous week's 4-3 York FA Saturday Senior Cup final reverse at the hands of Rovers by winning the league showpiece at Tockwith.

Unlike the previous week, defences were on top and the goal that separated the sides was scored in the first 90 seconds.

Wigginton's Jamie Green broke down the right-hand side and fed Dan Zambelli, whose first shot cannoned back before he was set up once again by Harry McMillan, curling in a smart finish from the edge of the area.

Chances followed at both ends with first Lee McQuade for Wiggy and then Lee Bunce for Rovers firing over when through on goal.

In the second period, Chris Dyson struck a superb shot only to see Grasshoppers keeper Mike Clancy make a stunning save and tip it onto the bar.

As the match drew to a close and Huntington applied pressure, Wiggy broke away but Jamie Willstrop and Matthew Tiplady both missed gilt-edged chances to seal the game.

Late efforts to equalise from Gary Newton and Daniel Pedras went awry and Hoppers dug deep to hold on for victory.
