THE York Minster Engineering Football League Senior Cup final tomorrow will be a rematch of last week’s York FA Senior Cup final, with victors Huntington Rovers squaring up to runners-up Wigginton Grasshoppers, writes Graham Ireton.
Huntington dispatched premier division champions Old Malton St Mary’s 2-0 in a hard-fought semi-final.
Rovers grabbed an early lead when the Malton goalkeeper could only parry Lee Bunce’s effort into the path of the waiting Chris Dyson.
The tie was effectively sealed midway through the second half when Gary Newton’s in-swinging corner was met by James Edmond whose thunderous header rocketed in.
Tomorrow’s final will be played at Tockwith (ko 2.30pm).
In the other semi-final, Wigginton trailed 2-0 at the interval to Brooklyn for whom Dave Thompson bagged both goals.
However, the second period belonged to Grasshoppers.
Terry Taylor bagged two goals before Jamie Willstrop jinked past three defenders to score. Tom Derbyshire rounded off the comeback win with a penalty.
