Boxer Charlie Hall in top title contest

York Press: Charlie Hall Charlie Hall

YORK fighter Charlie Hall is the new Junior Amateur Boxing Association Yorkshire featherweight champion - now with sights on the national crown.

Hall, 16, from York Boxing Club, in Walmgate, beat his Leeds foe in the final at Havercroft Sports Centre in Wakefield, to continue a five-fight unbeaten run since he represented the county against Irish international combatants in the Dublin Cup in early March.

Victory means he now goes through to the national quarter-finals, in which he will fight the North East champion in Newcastle on May 18.

Before then, he boxes on the undercard to a show at Tramways Working Men's Club, York.

That show sees fellow York Boxing Club gloveman Thomas Mulvenna, 25, fight for the Yorkshire ABA heavyweight belt, against harrogate-based champion Patrick James Stubbs.

Mulvenna was the county cruiserweight champion but Yorkshire ABA no longer include that weight category he has stepped up a division.
