YORK Phoenix kicked off their Yorkshire and Humber Rock-It-Ball League season with victories over two Easingwold teams.
Playing newly-promoted Easi HellDivers, who finished top of the second division with a 100 per cent record last term, Phoenix stormed into an 83-26 lead at the end of the first quarter.
That advantage was extended to 159-77 by the interval but HellDivers reduced the deficit to 266-201 at the final whistle, only losing the third quarter by a point and then winning the fourth by 18.
Phoenix had an easier ride against Easi HellCats, running out 262-146 winners.
