TOM PRINGLE'S three wickets in four balls gave York the edge in their 64-run victory over Rotherham in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League.

Visitors York opted to bat first and Simon Lambert and Jack Leaning saw off the new ball threat posed by Ben Sanderson, but scoring proved difficult.

The pair made their first century opening stand, Leaning surviving a stumping chance when on 42 to reach 50 off 84 balls.

Lambert survived a couple of scares in contributing 41 from 77, but was out to spinner Mark Cummins with the score on 103.

Liam McKendry fell cheaply but a partnership of 56 between Leaning and Ryan McKendry allowed York to retain the upper hand.

The visitors had reached 161 with 11 overs to go when two quick wickets arrested their progress. McKendry was undone, having made 21, by a ball from Cummins, then Leaning fell for 85.

York’s lower order struggled in the face of some accurate bowling and only 36 runs came from the final 11 overs for the loss of three further wickets as they closed on 197-7.

Matthew Hodsdon struck in the fifth over of the reply, Gareth Purshouse making six before sending simple catch to Ben Coad at mid off. York had to wait until the 38th over for the next success asJames Moorhouse and Cummins put on 93, while Daniel Woods and Leaning bowled in tandem with 16 overs costing only 30 runs.

With the total on 108, leg spinner Pringle bowled Cummins behind his legs for 28, but having taken 96 deliveries to reach that score Town needed to score at five an over.

Pringle’s eighth over turned the contest decisively as he took three wickets in four balls, including the prize wicket of Moorhouse for 69.

Pringle finished with 5-18 from 13 overs but, despite two late wickets for Woods, Rotherham’s last pair held on for six overs to deny the visitors maximum points.
