DRAW specialists Scunthorpe United will create football history if they share the spoils with York City tomorrow.

Since the three-points-for-a-win system in 1981, no side has ever been promoted in the Football League having drawn more games than they have won.

But the Iron, who have already secured their place in Sky Bet League One for next season, go into their home clash with the Minstermen having won 20, drawn 20 and lost just five of their league fixtures this term.

Should their final match finish honours even, Russell Wilcox's men will become the first English professional outfit to go up having drawn more games than they have won since Rochdale and Bradford both managed the unusual feat back in 1969.

Scunthorpe's inability to convert one point into three on a regular basis will, in all likelihood, cost them the League Two title, unless they collect a maximum haul against the Minstermen and top-two Chesterfield and Rochdale both fail to pick up victories from their respective fixtures against Fleetwood and Newport.

The North Lincolnshire side will also go into the game on the back of Wilcox's first defeat during 29 matches as manager, having taken over from Brian Laws in mid-November.

Scunthorpe went down 2-0 at Exeter last weekend but are still undefeated in 14 home games - a sequence stretching back to a 2-1 FA Cup reverse against non-League neighbours Grimsby.

Wilcox's men have won six and drawn eight of those matches and Accrington and Exeter remain the only two teams to have left Scunthorpe with maximum points this season.

The hosts are not expected to make any changes to their starting XI with left-back Marcus Williams likely to recover from a knock and Gary McSheffrey still ruled out with a torn hamstring.

Striker Sam Winnall, meanwhile, will go into the match hoping to secure League Two's golden boot.

Winnall has grabbed 23 goals this term, including only one penalty, with Plymouth's Reuben Reid his nearest rival on 20.

The 23-year-old Iron hit-man has not netted, however, in any of his last four home games.

At the other end of the pitch, former York College goalkeeper Sam Slocombe will complete an ever-present campaign by playing 90 minutes against the Minstermen.

Scunthorpe (probable): Slocombe, Nolan, Mirfin, Canavan, Williams, Sparrow, Syers, Collins, Hawkridge, Winnall, Madden.
