YORK Acorn ARLC 'A' produced a second-half comeback but were unable to stave off defeat against Skirlaugh 'A' in the Yorkshire Men's League.

The Blue and Golds trailed 30-4 just after the break, but battled back to lose only 30-20 in the game at Thanet Road.

The visitors scored four converted tries in the first half, with Acorn's only response a touch down from winger Haiden Barber on 12 minutes.

A further try on 46 minutes left Acorn with a mountain to climb, but centre John Tattersfield crossed the whitewash on 54 minutes.

Winger Paul Cross went over nine minutes later, Barber bagged his second on 75 minutes and Cross also sealed a brace with a minute to go.

Crucially, all five of Acorn's tries went unconverted.

Heworth 'A' lost 46-34 to visitors Featherstone Lions 'A' in an entertaining pre-season friendly.

Ben Stoker ran strongly for the Villagers and was rewarded with four tries.

Darren Harris, Joe Deighton and Liam Jackson also touched down, with Jackson (2) and Lewis Knox also adding converstions.

Deighton, Stoker and Ross Varley played well in an encouraging display.

Pennine League Championship

Queensbury 34 New Earswick All Blacks 14

New Earswick finished their Pennine League Championship season in fifth place after losing 34-14 to Bradford side Queensbury 34-14.

Queensbury dominated play in the first half to lead 14-0 at half time.

A stronger second-half performance from the All Blacks was underscored by tries from Carl Smith, Jack Stearman and Jordan Bracewell with Gargan adding the extras.

All Blacks man of the match was Reece Blake. He was backed up well by Stearman and Jack Carling.

Meanwhile, Selby Warriors 'A' won 38-23 at Cowling Harlequins in division seven.
