NIGEL WORTHINGTON believes if York City keep their nerve they will get the result they deserve in tomorrow's crunch Sky Bet League Two clash at Oxford United.

The Minstermen travel south knowing victory at the Kassam Stadium will vault them over the Us and back into the play-off places ahead of Easter Monday''s visit of mid-table Bury to Bootham Crescent.

With just three games remaining after Oxford, Worthington has conceded that a maximum point haul against their promotion rivals could "make the difference".

But asked whether his players would be able to cope with the pressure, he said: "I'd rather have it tense at this end of the table than tense like last year.

"That's number one. Where we have come to this year has been nothing short of fantastic - a fantastic effort by the players.

"We have just got to keep our feet on the floor and remember where we are at. If we can, and I believe we can, keep plugging away over the next four games then hopefully there will be some games after that."

Worthington continued: "It's a big game. We are next door to each other in the league and three points can make the difference. It's a big weekend for us but we are looking good, sharp and, hopefully, as long as we keep our nerve and go and play how we can, we can get a good result."

While City are on a 13-match unbeaten streak, Oxford have lost four of their last six matches. They did deal Plymouth a blow last time out, however, winning 2-0 and blunting the play-off push of the south coast side.

Worthington is keen to ensure that fate does not befall City. "They had a little bit of a wobble recently and a change of manager but they had a very good result last week," he said.

"They are at home and their tails will be up. It's about us, going away, being resilient and strong, doing our own job and getting at the opposition."

Calvin Andrew, who came into the starting line-up for the first time in the 1-1 home draw with Accrington Stanley last weekend, looks set to continue to lead the attack with Worthington impressed with the 27-year-old's workrate.

He said: "I thought he did very well. He was a real handful. He won an awful lot of headers for us and kept the ball up there. It's just a case of players around him getting used to linking in to what he can do - with flick-ons and so on - and reading it.

"That comes by training and playing together."

With no new injury concerns, Worthington also revealed that Wes Fletcher has had an operation on the medial ligament injury that has ended his season while Josh Carson is scheduled to go under the knife at the end of the month as he begins his recovery from cruciate ligament damage.

Both players were injured in the 1-0 win at Portsmouth at the end of March.

"Wes had his op on Tuesday afternoon and he can now start his rehab," Worthington said. "Josh is going to have his operation at the end of the month. We've got to let the swelling go down on his knee before they can do the surgery."
