YORK’S James Wilby is planning a triple assault on the British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow this week.

The 20-year-old Loughborough University student, who hails from Strensall, will compete in the breaststroke at 50 metres, 100m and 200m at the championships, which incorporate the Commonwealth Games trials.

Wilby, who still trains with York City Baths Club during his holidays, warmed up for the competition with a personal best display in winning a 100m competition in Sheffield, clocking one minute 2.25 seconds.

The 200m breaststroke heats will be held on Thursday morning at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, with the final in the evening.

The heats of the 100m are staged on Friday morning, with the semi-finals and final taking place in the evening session. The 50m event is scheduled for Sunday, with the heats in the morning and the semi-finals and final in the evening.

The competition closes on Tuesday, April 15.
