Station’s mathematical chance of overhauling leaders King William in division one of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby Sunday Morning League came to an end when they went down 7-4 at home to Wigginton Grasshoppers.

The visitors took the lead after just five minutes when Jamie Wilstrop broke through the back line to slot home from twelve yards.

The home side responded though and gradually took control of the match, creating many chances until finally levelling from one of their numerous corners. Station then took the lead just before the interval.

“Hoppers” struck back immediately after the restart’ and did not take long to go in front 3-2 when Wilstrop struck his second on forty nine minutes. Tom Jackson then dribbled past three Station defenders to make it 4-2, before Station reduced the deficit once again.

The visitors went 5-3 with a penalty from Ben Thompson. Station then netted to make it 5-4 and set up a grand finale finish to the game.

With ten minutes to go Tom Jackson secured the points for the visitors by adding his second and “Hoppers” sixth before completing his hat-trick with a forty yard strike just before the final whistle. Will Ramsey, Ryan Whitlam, Michael Braithwaite and Brenton Leister netting Stations goals.

In division two leaders Leeman United and third placed Huntington Rovers were both on cup duty, Bubwith White Swan who lie in second place saw their chances of catching the leaders go down the pan when they were beaten 2-1 by York Nomads and now will be looking over their shoulder as Rovers have games in hand and could overtake them in the promotion race.

Swan opened the scoring but Nomads hit back with a penalty from Matt Hattie and Kieron Flanaghan strike to claim the points in their fight against relegation.

Luke Zacharenko hit all six goals for Hemingbrough in their 6-2 win at York Medics. The students replying with first half strikes from Will Tracey and Jack Sherlock.

The bragging rights at the top of division three went to second place Britannia Tadcaster when they beat leaders Marcia Grey 2-1, a result that means Britannia are only four points behind in the title race with two games in hand. Adam Field gave Britannia a 1-0 half-time, he then spurned the chance to double this in the second period when his spot kick was saved by Marv in Norris in the Marcia goal.

Carl Stewart tied the scores when he netted for the sixth game on the bounce to set up a nervy ending to the game. Both sides then had chances to score but Field was not to be denied his second of the game which sealed the points for Britannia.

Runaway champions of division four Snaith were too strong for Selby Olympia when running out 7-2 winners. Rob Tate top scored for Snaith by bagging himself four goals also finding the net were Matt Whitaker, Brad Thompson and Mark Baggalay with a goal apiece. Connor Brewins and Pawel Jankowski replying for Olympia.

NUR and Drax both had to win their last game to claim the promotion place alongside Snaith. NUR will be joining Snaith in division three after a comfortable 4-0 win at New Earswick. Aiden Ward gave NUR a 2-0 half-time lead.

After the restart Rob Constable made it 3-0 before Ward scored the fourth with his second of the match with a beauty of a free kick to complete the scoring and pip Drax to promotion by one point. Drax were 3-2 winners at Marcia Bishopthorpe. Rich Green, Kevin Newlove and James Barrett netting for the winners.

Division one table toppers King William are through to the final of the Senior Challenge Trophy after squeezing past Huntington Rovers 3-2. In an even first half it was King William who took the lead with a goal from Luke Hall to lead 1-0 at the interval.

Ten minutes into the second with Rovers gradually starting to get back in the game they equalised when Danny Franks fired home a twenty yard free kick. Danny Gray struck to put King William back in front and the lead was increased when Kevin Butler chipped the keeper for 3-1.

Rovers were given a life line when Chris Dyson slotted home from the penalty spot in the dying moments for 2-3 but there was not enough time left for a third to take the game into extra time.

Leeman United will line up against King William in the final after they saw off Albion Vaults 3-0. The tie was all square at the halfway point but two goals from Jamie Moore gave United an early 2-0 second half lead before Ollie Newby sealed the result with the third goal.
