T20 boost for touring Tykes

YORKSHIRE enjoyed a successful weekend of Twenty20 cricket in Colombo, winning their four-match series against a Sri Lanka Development side 3-1.

The Vikings won the first three matches on Saturday and yesterday morning before losing the fourth yesterday afternoon.

All-rounder Adil Rashid enjoyed a profitable weekend with bat and ball, taking 3-16 from four overs in the first match as the visitors, chasing 123-7, won by six wickets with 34 balls to spare.

The 26-year-old then hit 53 in game three yesterday as Yorkshire made 151-8 before his 3-29 from four overs helped to restrict the Sri Lanka youngsters, including a number of under-19s internationals, to 143-8.

York seamer Ben Coad’s 2-12 from two overs was also crucial.

In game two on Saturday, Azeem Rafiq took 3-20 from four overs as the hosts made 132-9. England U19s opener Jonny Tattersall underpinned the chase with 35. Yorkshire won by four wickets with 15 balls to spare.

In game four yesterday, Dan Hodgson hit 44 in a Vikings score of 150-7 before the Sri Lankans completed the chase to win by four wickets with nine balls to spare. Rashid took 2-28.

Yorkshire face a two-day match, expected to be against a Sri Lanka Cricket Board XI, tomorrow and Wednesday.
