YORK City gatecrashed the Sky Bet League Two play-off zone with a 1-0 victory at fallen giants Portsmouth.

The Minstermen took the lead after five minutes through in-form front man Michael Coulson and his goal proved enough to seal a fifth consecutive triumph.

Relegation-threatened Pompey's cause was not helped by the 50th-minute dismissal of Ben Chorley, while City striker Ryan Bowman missed a superb chance to double the lead with ten minutes remaining.

The win came at a cost, with injuries to Josh Carson and Wes Fletcher, but Plymouth's 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley meant Nigel Worthington's men moved into seventh spot on goal difference with eight games remaining.
