YORK Sitting Volleyball Club are on the lookout for new members.

The club was established recently by the University of York Volleyball Club to increase participation among disabled students on campus.

The initiative received Sportivate funding by North Yorkshire Sport and sessions are now run by Steve Matthews, Volleyball England staff tutor.

Elsa Meserlian, from the club, said: “We get up to 12 people a session, disabled and otherwise, but we would sincerely love to encourage more participation from people with disabilities.

“The sessions were a great success, and we have decided to extend them to the York community.

“We have received great support from Glynn Newberry of City of York Council, and are very impressed by the enthusiasm generated so far.

“It is the ambition of the club’s coaches and administrators to have a well-established team in the Yorkshire region, where future participation in the Volleyball England Sitting Grand Prix is on our minds.”

The sessions are held on Mondays, from 7pm to 8pm. The cost is £2 for non-students and £1 for students.
