CONEYSTHORPE ‘A’ appear certain to retain their York and District Table Tennis League first division title after a 10-0 whitewashing of now relegated York RI ‘C’, with Dave Quinlan.

Isaac Beevor picked up two excellent wins for University ‘A’ in a 7-3 defeat to second-placed York RI ‘A’ for whom Mick Wilcockson was unbeaten.

University ‘A’ have now completed their season and will enter a play-off with the division two runners-up to determine if they will cling on to top-flight status.

Holgate ‘A’ had a fine 9-1 victory over York RI ‘B’ thanks to Aidan Ranftler and Graham Hatfield, while a maximum from James Rules was required for Coneysthorpe ‘B’ to draw against Bootham ‘A’.

Honours were even in the top-two second division 5-5 draw between Holgate ‘B’ and Shepherds for whom Andy Fletcher gained three excellent wins.

Mark Blackburn was undefeated in a 7-3 victory for York RI ‘D’ against Bootham ‘D’, while Bootham ‘B’ showed no mercy in a 10-0 whitewash of bottom-placed Shepherds ‘D’.

Rachel Greener played superbly to beat the classy Sam Imbo in the 7-3 triumph of Bootham ‘C’ over depleted York RI ‘E’. John Flintoft starred for Shepherds ‘C’ in a 6-4 win against Holgate ‘C’, who still took vital points in the battle to avoid relegation.

In division three, a two-man University ‘B’ team slumped to their first defeat of the season, with Alan Balmforth too strong to underpin a 7-3 victory for Thornton-le-Clay.

Burnholme ‘A’ retained hopes of survival with a close 6-4 success over BT ‘A’, for whom Howard Broadbent was undefeated.

Burnholme ‘B’ retained the leadership of division four but had a mixed week. They were surprised by Bootham ‘G’ for whom Jason Chinnian and Russ Barton excelled in an 8-2 triumph, but bounced back within 24 hours to thrash University ‘C’ 10-0. It was a bad week for the students who suffered another 10-0 loss at the hands of York RI J.
