YORK City have appointed John McGhee as the club’s general manager.

McGhee, 58, will start the new role next month having retired from his position heading Yorkshire Bank’s portfolio, assurance and advisory team for the North of England.

He has worked for the bank since leaving school and, during that time, forged links with a number of professional football and rugby clubs.

McGhee, pictured, is a keen Sheffield Wednesday supporter and is relishing his new position, saying: “I am passionate about the game of football and I hope my background can benefit the business in many ways and help to enhance the supporters’ experience.

“I will be as accessible as possible to all the staff and supporters and look forward to meeting everyone when I start my role in April.”

Commenting on McGhee’s arrival, City chairman Jason McGill added: “John is extremely experienced at a senior level and will be responsible for implementing the board’s strategy for the club going forward.”
