YORK City have received no approaches for top scorer Wes Fletcher despite reports of unsubstantiated interest from higher division clubs.

Fletcher has been linked to Sky Bet Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers and League One clubs Preston and MK Dons but City chief Nigel Worthington is in no mood to sell the 22-year-old forward, who is under contract at Bootham Crescent until the summer of 2015.

The former Burnley striker has netted nine times from open play this season with a further four goals coming from the penalty spot.

Commenting on possible transfer talk concerning Fletcher, who has missed the Minstermen’s last two games with a groin problem, Worthington said: “We have had no inquiries at the football club.

“The rumours don’t surprise me really if I’m being honest but, at the minute, he’s doing quite nicely for ourselves, when he’s fit.

“With his contract, he will be a York City player for another 15 months and we want to keep it that way because we are looking to move forward as a club ourselves.

“It would be good for him as well to be here and continues his work and progress. “If he can get more goals this season that can only help him too.”
