HOPES of York Indoor Bowls Club ‘A’ winning the Yorkshire Over-55s League first division rose after a convincing 106-69 victory over Scarborough comprising three winning rinks and one draw.

The home leg was played first and saw Graham Instone’s team drop a two on their first end before winning 12 of the following 15 ends to claim 33 shots, which underpinned a 39-13 victory.

The rink led by Phil Parsons were 13-6 in deficit after 12 ends but pulled the score back to 15-14 with four ends to go.

Dropping a four did not even distract them as a two on the last end confirmed a 19-19 draw.

With a 26-shot advantage going into the away leg it was a case of trying to pick up the maximum aggregate points.

Both teams were successful with Graham Brooke’s coming from 6-1 down to lead 14-6 on their way to a 22-13 victory.

Malcolm Thompson’s team shrugged off a 6-0 deficit to finally prevail 26-24.

York ‘A’ are now second, 11 points behind leaders Featherstone with both teams having one game to play.

York’s final fixture is against city rivals New Earswick, a week today, starting at both venues at 12.30pm.
