JASON HART, last year’s champion apprentice, can resume winning ways at Southwell today.

The North Yorkshire rider returned to the fray for a couple of mounts last week, having sat out the winter in order to protect his 3lb claim.

Hart has a further 19 winners to ride to forfeit his allowance and join the fully fledged ranks.

Sleepy Blue Ocean can help Hart on his way by winning the Compare Bookmakers At bookmakers.co.uk Handicap.

John Balding’s sprinter goes particularly well on this course and was a winner here on his only previous outing this season.

Raised only 3lb for that success, Sleepy Blue Ocean can follow up today.

Gogeo is another horse who is very much at home at Southwell and Alan Swinbank's gelding is taken to notch his fifth course success in the Coral Mobile Selling Stakes.

Tony Hamilton takes the mount on Gogeo, who is seeking his third straight win on the Flat.

Daryl Byrne, who spent last season with Tim Easterby, has since moved to Chepstow trainer Ron Harris and he can ride his second winner for his new boss on Diamond Vine in the Best Odds Guaranteed At bookmakers.co.uk Handicap over six furlongs.

The six-year-old finished a respectable second to Johnny Splash at Lingfield last time. He may not need to improve much on that performance to go one better here.

Also worthy of attention are the promising Moonlight Venture (3.25), trained by Kevin Ryan, and the in-form Khajaaly (3.55), who is awarded the nap vote to follow up his recent success. Andrew Mullen rides.

At Wincanton, David Pipe, who has a strong team going to Cheltenham next week, could be the trainer to follow.

He has winning chances with Volt Face, Red Seventy and Our Chief.

Volt Face, winner of his only bumper start last season at Towcester, has come up short in both his hurdle runs this term, but Pipe now equips him with a hood and the headgear could well have the desired effect in the Bathwick Tyres Poole Maiden Hurdle.

Red Seventy runs in the Bathwick Tyres Salisbury Handicap Hurdle after three outings in novice company.

This is his handicap debut and although his opening mark of 117 does not look overly generous, he has the scope for improvement.

In the Bathwick Tyres Maiden National Hunt Flat Race, Pipe saddles an interesting newcomer in Our Chief, a son of Old Vic.

It would be no surprise to see him make a bold bid.

Also worth noting at Wincanton are Exeter winner Thomas Wild (4.05) and Rossa Parks (5.05), successful over this course and distance two outings ago.
