LEADERS Fulford ‘A’ returned to winning ways in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 5-2 victory over Bootham ‘A’.

The win increased Fulford’s advantage at the top to five points, although Heworth ‘A’ have two games in hand and the rest of the top five have one game in hand.

Sam Wass, James Lee, Tom Lewis, Jamie Husband and Simon England built a winning lead before John Darley stopped the run and Stuart Martel gained the second point with a comfortable success against Glen Mountain.

Malton ‘A’ held on to second place despite going down 4-3 to Acomb ‘B’, who fought back from 3-0 down after Lee Taylor, Steve Beal and Roger Ward made a good start.

Brian Henry got Acomb on the board then Chris Nicholson, Steve Rodgers and Andy Stone, who beat Simon Weatherill in the deciding last frame, completed the turnaround.

Bootham ‘B’ moved into joint third with their ‘A’ team thanks to a 4-3 win against lowly Fulford ‘B’.

They went 3-1 ahead with wins for Matt Smith, Ian Robinson (28 break) and Paul Scorfield against a reply by Andy Ogley (20 break).

Jim Rollinson reduced the arrears, but Paul Powell (25 break) completed the victory before Bob Smith took the final frame for Fulford.

Acomb ‘A’ moved up a place to fifth after beating bottom placed Heworth ‘B’, but they are 12 points off the pace.

Andy Ireland (45 break) opened for Heworth, but Roland Cox and Nick Marchant (24 break) moved Acomb ahead.

Brian Birch levelled, but Tim Lister – who made a 27 clearance when 23 behind – and Phil Carlton sealed Acomb’s success before John Sherlock defeated Mick Borg to make it 4-3.

After Weatherill’s defeat, Heworth’s Nick Dyson is the sole leader in the Molson Coors Worthington player of the year standings with nine wins in ten games. Weatherill also has nine wins but has played one game more.

Taylor continues to lead in the Pasema Paving highest break contest with his 66 break.
