ACOMB’S Richard Lillie claimed the York Conservative Clubs’ Hair Flicks Hylton Foster Billiards Championship when he beat club-mate Tim Lister in the final at Fulford.

Playing off a plus-50 handicap, Lillie quickly reached 100 points while two-time former winner Lister, off a handicap of minus-ten, had only managed to reach 34.

However, Lister fought back with a break of 35, comprising a potted white plus 11 reds, to trail by only six points at 110-104.

Lillie responded to go 129-104 in front and, although Lister replied to lead 132-129, he then led 154-132.

Lister levelled at 154-154, but he missed his chance to take the crown and Lillie eventually ran out with three reds, including the final ball along the top cushion, to win 165-154.

In the semi-finals, Lillie had a comfortable 165-73 win against Bootham’s Tim Fillingham (plus 15 handicap).

Lister made a 25 break to lead 82-69 in his semi-final against Bootham’s Colin Robinson (plus 15 handicap). Robinson fought back to lead 121-119 and they were level at 132-132, but Lister then forged ahead and finished with a 16 break to win 165-144.

Ken Taylor, Alan Reed and Fillingham refereed, while the trophy and awards were presented by David Appleby, the sponsor and owner of Hair Flicks.
