PAUL DAVISON could not fend off an in-form Fergal O’Brien in the qualifiers for snooker’s China Open.
The Pickering potter, pictured, fell 5-1 to the Irishman in the first round of the event, which was staged at the Capital Venue in Gloucester.
O’Brien had reached the final of the Gdynia Open, in Poland, earlier this month and he took that form into his best-of-nine frames match with Davison.
Breaks of 92, 58 and 67 helped him establish a 3-0 advantage and he went into the interval four ahead after winning a scrappy frame.
Davison produced an effort of 40 to win the first after the resumption and get on the scoreboard but lost a tight sixth frame to exit the tournament ahead of the venue stages in Beijing at the end of March.
