YORK City Ladies reached the North Riding County Cup final after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough Lionesses.

Jazz Whitwell and Ali Smith found the net for the hosts at York College in a game that could have finished 10-0 in the winners’ favour.

Positive from the start, York forced three early corners with defender Ruth Brazier hitting a post from the final one.

Whitwell then made the breakthrough on ten minutes, following up to net after the Boro ’keeper could only parry a Lauren Shuttleworth strike following Ellie Harding’s fantastic cross.

Moments later, a fine effort from Becca Dawson was pushed away for a corner before the visitors managed their one and only goal attempt of the game on 19 minutes, which was safely collected by City ’keeper Chloe Precious.

In the second half, Smith came on for Whitwell, who had made some great runs at the Lionesses’ goal.

The substitute only had to wait eight minutes to get her name on the scoresheet to double the lead.

An ill Precious was later replaced on the hour mark by Megan Bramham, who was a virtual spectator for the last 30 minutes.
