A ROUT of Redcar propelled York Indoor Bowls Club ladies into the Mason Trophy quarter-finals.

The 53-36 triumph clinched a last-eight tie against either Barwell or Lincoln.

At home, Linda Harrison’s team won the first two ends but then lost the next three and trailed 6-4 before scoring a seven to launch a superb surge on their opponents which yielded 23 shots over seven ends to give them a 27-6 win.

Carol Instone’s away team trailed 14-4 before coming back into their game to 14-10.

While the home side maintained their good work to win 40-13, Instone’s team lost five of the last seven ends but kept the scores down to a minimum to only lose 23-13.

Meanwhile, York beat Scarborough 85-66 to move within six points of leaders Redcar in the Yorkshire Ladies League.

The victory was mainly due to Sue Allen’s rink who dropped singles on their first three ends but only lost two more up to the 20th end, scoring a six on the fourth, fifth and sixth ends and a seven on the 18th and 19th for an emphatic 43-10 success.

Melanie Brooke’s team were never behind in their game and won 20-17 despite losing the last three ends where they dropped five shots.

Away, Linda Harrison’s team went into their last end needing a two to draw, but unfortunately they dropped a single and lost 15-12.

Instone’s side had a tough afternoon. After scoring a two on their first end they trailed 16-4 by the tenth on their way to a 24-10 defeat.
