New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club look to have secured their Yorkshire League division one future after comfortably accounting for second-placed North Cave 89-72.
Earswick’s haul was a valuable 14 points to leapfrog their opponents.
The Huntington Road outfit had three winning rinks with the home teams of Ralph Tiplady winning 29-8 and that of Brian Gray 23-17.
Away, Paul Dawson’s team posted a 23-15 victory, though Barry Johnson’s had a tougher outing, losing 32-14.
For the first time in the club’s Yorkshire League history, York suffered their third successive defeat, this time at the hands of Scarborough who beat them 88-62.
York only had one winning rink, that of Phil Emmerson who won the last three ends to go from 14-12 down and triumph 18-14.
York’s division three team also had a disappointing duel. They dropped out of the top five after losing 86-75 to Scarborough.
Tony Hopcutt’s home team found themselves 11-7 down after ten ends but turned the game round with two fives and a four to win 32-16 victory.
Geoff Walker’s away side held their nerve after dropping a single, then a five, to notch a single on the last end for a 19-18 success.
