ENTRIES are now being accepted for the 2014 York Charity Cricket Cups competition.

The competition is open to all clubs within a 25-mile radius of York’s Lendal Post Office.

The competition is the oldest and longest running evening knockout tournament in the York area and is entering its 85th year.

Predominantly, the competition is supported by clubs from the York & District Senior League and York Vale League, with some clubs from the Wetherby League plus Yorkshire League stalwarts York.

Committee members hope that more clubs from the Wetherby League and Pilmoor and Foss evening leagues will be tempted to enter.

Sponsorship from Minster Engineering Ltd and Stephensons Estate Agents means the committee is able to offer prize money to winners and runners-up, while also raising about £1,000 each season for distribution to local charities.

It has achieved that target in each of the last 18 seasons.
