Acomb Hockey Club men’s I completely outplayed visitors Mirfield in Yorkshire League division four north to close in on the front-runners.
Once Matt Dickenson drove home a penalty in the opening exchanges, Acomb remained in full command.
A Dickenson penalty corner drag was deflected into the net by the ’keeper before Harry Ellis rattled in a sharp shot for a 3-0 advantage.
After the turnaround the Tangerines piled on the pressure with the visiting ’keeper, their skipper, denying the raids until Sam Lynn neatly deflected in from close range.
Man of the match Dickenson completed his hat-trick with another penalty corner and Lynn’s reverse stick strike converted the sixth.
Right on the final whistle the visitors squeezed home a consolation goal past Craig Brown who was distraught at not keeping a clean sheet.
