THERE will be no comings or goings at York City before the transfer window closes tonight.

City boss Nigel Worthington has insisted his January business is complete and that there will not be any further permanent additions to his squad until the summer.

John McCombe, Shaq McDonald, Russell Penn and Adam Reed have all been recruited by the Minstermen since the turn of the year with Keith Lowe also finalising his move from Cheltenham and Nick Pope and Will Hayhurst signing on loan.

The likes of Ashley Chambers, Craig Clay, Jamal Fyfield and Chris Smith, meanwhile, have moved on while Ryan Brobbel, Luke O’Neill and Elliott Whitehouse have returned to their parent clubs.

With seven in and seven out, Worthington is now satisfied with the squad he has assembled to carry the club through to the summer.

He said: “There won’t be anything happening (today). I will be honest and say we have done everything we were going to do.

“I have told the players they will be the ones that move us forward until the end of the season, so they can get their heads down and give the club and supporters everything they can by going out and enjoying their football.”

All thoughts have now turned to tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two clash at promotion hopefuls Fleetwood with Ryan Jarvis still ruled out due to an ankle injury, but David McGurk likely to be available despite suffering a back spasm late in Tuesday’s 2-0 home defeat to Chesterfield.

Despite the disappointment of that loss, Worthington is in no mood for self-pity, adding: “As manager, I have to lead from the front and I can’t come in for training with a hangover from Tuesday night.

“We have to be bright and positive as staff and get the players focused on the next game.

“We are well aware that the games will run out but we have got enough in this group to get back on track and end this run of two defeats.

“We have proven that all season and there’s no better game after playing the team at the top of the table to go to another team up there as well.”

Said the City chief: “Me, Steve (Torpey) and Richard (Dryden) went to their 0-0 draw at Scunthorpe on Monday and they are a decent side, make no mistake about that.

“We have got respect for them but, if we do what we can do, we are capable of getting a good result.”

City currently lie 16th in the table and six points above the relegation zone but every side below them in the standings has at least one game in hand with some having played two or three fewer fixtures.

Worthington understands the need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and believes it is unlikely that two teams will be cut adrift at the bottom of the table come May.

He added: “The table has been tight since the start of the season and I think it will be until the last kick of the campaign so we need to keep looking forward.

“I’ve mentioned to the players that we have got 17 games to go and they have got to make things easier for themselves rather than harder during that time.”
