PRESTON winger Will Hayhurst will go straight into York City’s squad for tomorrow's home match with promotion hopefuls Chesterfield.

Hayhurst, 19, has agreed a one-month loan deal with the Minstermen and will compete with Josh Carson and Michael Coulson for a spot on the flanks.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international, who has also represented his country at U19 and U17 level, has scored four goals in 37 matches for the Lilywhites.

He has only made the first XI four times this campaign, though, with his last start coming in this month’s 3-2 FA Cup replay win against Ipswich.

On Hayhurst’s arrival, City boss Nigel Worthington said: “He’s a natural left-footer with good energy and League One experience, who will give us another option in the wide areas.

“Sander (Puri) has been injured and we have been using Josh and Couls out there, so we wanted to bring in a bit more competition.”

Teenager Hayhurst will join former Deepdale team-mate Ben Davies at Bootham Crescent with the latter two-thirds of the way through a season-long loan with the Minstermen.

Ripon-born ex-Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is currently in charge of Preston and, with the pair having done business together for a second time this term, Worthington added: “It is important to have relationships in football.

“You have to make contacts and use them and, then, hopefully, reap the benefits.”
