A VIVIENNE Trophy date with Beccles beckons for York Indoor Bowls Club as they kept up their fantastic record in the competition.

The Thanet Road outfit easily beat Leicester 106-69, winning all four rinks, to move into the quarter-finals where they will play Suffolk side Beccles at Newark IBC on February 6.

The home rinks both got off to good starts with Brenda Martin’s side leading 11-1 after four ends and Barbara Dawson’s 18-3 after eight ends.

Martin’s superiority was sealed with a seven on the 19th end, moving their score to 34-10, and the game finished 35-12.

Dawson’s opponents came back at them but the damage had already been done and a three on the last gave the home side a 26-19 victory.

In Leicester, both rinks were 7-0 down after only two ends, but they responded magnificently with Pat Bracken’s side winning the next four ends to take a 10-7 lead.

They were in front from then on, scoring a two on the last end to seal a 22-18 victory.

Irene Paylor’s side came back gradually and took the lead in a run which yielded ten shots between the 14th and 18th ends.

That took them from 16-12 down to 22-16 in front on their way to a 23-20 win.
