Bootham ‘A’ recorded their first win at the ninth attempt by defeating their ‘B’ team 3½-2½ in the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League.
Wins for Ken Taylor (22, 22 breaks) and Colin Robinson (22 break) built a 47-point aggregate advantage for the ‘A’ team.
Tim Fillingham reduced the arrears and overturned the aggregate with a 62-point win, only for Stuart Martel to make it 3-1 and again give the ‘A’ an aggregate lead of 28 points.
Matt Smith won the last game for the ‘B’ team, but Steve Carroll hung on so that the overall scores were tied and the ‘A’ side had won 3½-2½.
Fillingham and Smith have joined Acomb’s Richard Lillie as joint leaders in the Cameo Engraving player of the year competition, each with six wins in seven games.
Heworth’s Gary Rogers has taken the lead in the Cameo Engraving highest break contest with an 80 break made in the Hair Flicks Hylton Foster Knockout which qualifies for this award.
