A FIRST win of the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two season was bagged by York IBC when they beat North Cave Maroon 98-61 thanks to three winning rinks.

The away leg was played first and saw Ken Robinson’s and Ron Munro’s sides both winning to take the maximum six points.

Robinson’s team got off to a flier – 19-0 up after eight ends before the home side got on the board.

But the York side responded by scoring nine shots over the next four ends on the way to a 34-10 win.

The team led by Munro were involved in a tough game but they were never behind. With the score standing at 14-13, a two on the 19th end helped to relieve the pressure and they made sure they didn’t lose by only dropping two singles to win 16-15.

At home, Alan Clapham’s team lost the first four ends and found themselves 6-0 down before scoring ten shots over the next four ends.

They lost only four more to run out comfortable 34-14 victors.

Derrick Clarke’s rink dropped a seven on the eighth end to go 13-5 down. They clawed their way back but the visitors held sway and triumphed 22-14.

The York ‘B’ home leg against Leeds, cancelled last month, has been rearranged for Friday, January 31.
