THE premier division title race in the York Minster Engineering Football League was blown wide open when defending champions Dunnington ended Riccall United’s 100 per cent record in decisive fashion.

Goals from Matty Wain, Jimmy Wilmoth, Tom Richards and Robert Chipps ensured that Dunnington ran out 4-2 winners.

That result on Saturday allowed both Old Malton St Mary’s and Huntington Rovers to pull further clear of Riccall at the top.

However, Riccall’s games in hand do mean that the destiny of the title is still in their own hands.

Riccall’s goals came from Chris Coxon and Tom Littlewood as their 11-match winning run came to an end.

Old Malton kept their seven-point cushion at the top with a comfortable 5-0 victory at York RI.

Steve Baxter and Marcus Godsell bagged a brace apiece, with Scott Preston notching Saints’ fifth.

Chris Dyson took only nine minutes to get on the scoresheet for Rovers against Poppleton, but suffered an injury shortly afterwards.

James Edmond doubled Rovers’ lead straight afterwards and Gary Newton tapped home a Lee Bunce cross in the final minute of the first period to extend the lead to 3-0.

Copmanthorpe moved up to fifth in the table with a 4-1 victory over St Clement’s. The sides went in 1-1 at half-time but Cop proved superior in the second half and goals from Jake Moyse, Danny Leach, Matty Bastock and Terry Hibbert won them the points.

Recent draw specialists Wigginton Grasshoppers could not make the most of their chances at Easingwold Town and found themselves 1-0 down to a Steve Aconley goal at half-time.

Aconley then added his second just after the break, but Grasshoppers fought back and levelled the match with goals from Dave Hartas and Dale Holding. Despite further pressure, the visitors could not beat Easingwold goalkeeper Kyle Waite, who produced some fantastic saves.

A Joe Woof penalty and a Steve Jarvis strike gave Aviva a 2-0 victory over Terrington Glory.
