Penalty shoot-out joy for Thorpe United and Bishop Wilton
10:09am Monday 30th December 2013 in Sport
PENALTIES were needed to settle both outstanding York FA Saturday Junior Cup fourth round ties.
Bishop Wilton beat Copmanthorpe Reserves 7-6 in a shoot-out after their game finished 2-2, while Thorpe United progressed to the semi-finals with a 4-3 spot-kicks win over Dringhouses Reserves after a 1-1 draw.
Copmanthorpe Reserves’ Terry Hibbert scored a goal in each half to force a draw with Bishop Wilton, who had Alex Gurnell and Tom Knowles on the scoresheet.
Thorpe were 1-0 up at half-time, but Dringhouses Reserves fought back to earn a penalty shoot-out thanks to a goal by Lee Bond.
All cup competitions are now at the semi-final stage and York FA secretary Barry Casterton said: “Following a good run of luck with the weather, only one match has been postponed to a waterlogged pitch and five to County Cups out of 238 ties.”
