ANDY BULMER, a well-known York sporting all-rounder, has died aged 82 after a long illness.
York-born Bulmer, who was on York City’s books in the 1950s, was educated at Nunthorpe Grammar School before working at Bishophill glass factory.
He spent the latter part of his working life at British Railways in the road motor engineers’ department.
A quick hard-working forward, he played for the Bootham Crescent club’s reserves in the Yorkshire League.
After National Service in the RAF, he turned out for Gleneagles in the York & District League.
He signed for Yorkshire League club South Kirby Colliery and spent several years with them.
He ended his football career with The Groves, an outstanding local team who won a number of York Sunday League titles and cup competitions.
Bulmer, a good cricket all-rounder, played for Scarcroft in the then thriving York Evening League in the 1950s.
He then joined York Ramblers in the York Senior League before finally playing for Dringhouses, helping them to win the Myers & Burnell Cup three times in four years in the 1970s.
Bulmer leaves his wife, Doreen, and his daughter, Julia.
