YORK City played out a fifth successive draw as they were held 1-1 at Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League Two.

The Crown Ground share-all was the Minstermen's eighth draw in ten winless matches in the league, leaving Nigel Worthington's side in 20th place in the table.

The visitors were the better side in the first half and forged ahead thanks to Wes Fletcher's penalty, the striker scoring from the spot after being felled in the box on 35 minutes.

However, City's Achilles heel this season has been their inability to hang on to a lead for any length of time and they allowed Accrington back into the game before half-time.

George Bowerman took advantage of some poor City defending to scramble in a goal and send Stanley in on level terms.

The second half was a more low-key affair as the Minstermen were unable to grab a winner for their 717 travelling fans in a crowd of 2,009.

Worthington's men now travel to fellow strugglers Bury on Sunday, before hosting Morecambe on New Year's Day.
